Guide: Make your own toothpaste in 5 minutes

It is easy to make your own natural toothpaste completely without chemicals. All you need are a few simple ingredients that you may already have in your kitchen cupboard. A homemade toothpaste has a slightly different consistency to the toothpaste you buy in a tube, and it doesn't foam as much either. On the other hand, you know exactly what is in it.

You need that to make your own toothpaste

Ingredients for homemade toothpaste:

3-4 tbsp. organic, cold-pressed coconut oil with top

½-1 tsp. baking soda

20-30 drops of peppermint essential oil

Possibly. 1 letter green tea extract if you want fluoride in the toothpaste

Procedure - here's how you do it:

  1. Put the coconut oil in a bowl and leave the bowl at room temperature so that the coconut oil becomes softer and thus easier to work with.
  2. Mix in the baking soda and peppermint essential oil and stir the ingredients well.
  3. Store the toothpaste in a tightly closed container in a dark and cool place. It can last for up to 1 week, so new ones must be made regularly if you want to use homemade toothpaste permanently.

The coconut oil has an antibacterial effect, the baking soda has abrasive and bleaching properties, and the peppermint drops give a good and fresh taste, reminiscent of the usual toothpastes from the supermarket. At the same time, peppermint drops are also bactericidal. Green tea has a natural content of fluorine, and if you want fluorine in your toothpaste, you can therefore advantageously use green tea extract in it.

How to brush your teeth with homemade toothpaste

  1. Put a good dab of toothpaste on the toothbrush using a spoon, wooden stick or similar. Do not stick the toothbrush into the bucket itself to avoid bacteria.
  2. Brush the teeth thoroughly for 2-3 minutes. The toothpaste does not foam, so brushing your teeth with homemade toothpaste is probably a slightly different experience than you are used to. Take some water in your mouth, gargle for 1 minute, then spit it all out. Do not use the sink for this as the coconut oil can clog the drain.
